Road Diary Last Thoughts & Thanks Although my last book, With Your Spirit Guide's Help, was a journal of our travels, the actual idea for sharing our trip on the Web must be credited to Ray Wylie Hubbard, the best singer-songwriter in the business. Ray does a Road Diary on his Website: www.raywylie.com Because I so enjoy his Austin alternative music, I've also enjoyed reading about his road experiences. Most singers do their best work in their younger days and then coast through their career. I've watched and listened to Ray since the early 70s and this guy started doing his best work in the mid 90s. And he just keeps getting better, which is a real inspiration to me. He also includes a lot of cool metaphysical stuff in the lyrics and openly expresses his disdain for the fundamentalists, which must make him some kind of soul brother. I also want to thank Jason McKean, our art director and my brother in law, for doing a great job of posting the material in a timely way. Jason has done all the visual and mechanical work on our personal Website, which I think is far better than most of those created by commercial companies specializing in such things. As I write this we've been home a week. Jet lag, in my opinion, is far worse traveling from the UK to LA, than going the other way. But friends in the UK say the same in reverse. Maybe my trippy mindset is partially due to the Edinburgh-to-Malibu culture shock. Edinburgh feels like a spiritual home to me, but the American Southwest is my true home this lifetime. Much as I love Scotland, I'm very glad to be home. To appreciate what we have in America, spend some time in other countries. We have it so-o-o-o-o good here. A few people have sent e-mails saying if we plan to do a seminar in Scotland they'd be interested in signing up. We would probably lease a central location -- maybe a rural farmhouse -- then spend many of the days traveling to some of the sites I've written about the last two months. I don't know yet if it is workable, but let us know if you'd be interested in joining us if the price and timing is right. If we get enough response (it won't take that much), it will encourage us to see what we can put together. I have no idea how many people read the diary. We continue to receive e-mail reactions. One more time, thanks for joining us if you were one of the select few. Richard Sutphen Malibu, CA -- August 7, 1999 |
