Tara & Cheyenne, England, Nov 2002

The girls in the London apartment.

FRIDAY, NOV. 8: HEALING ARTS FESTIVAL DAY

Road Diary 2002

I awaken at 7 AM feeling fully rested.

We’re now back in the world of pump toilets, and Tetley’s Tea. So I switch on our electrical outlets and plug in the electric water pot. Moments later, we’re sipping tea and eating digestive biscuits provided by the apartment.

It’s a dark, spitty-rain day, but warmer than yesterday. In a nearby restaurant, we have a full English breakfast (eggs, back bacon, sausage, tomato, toast, baked beans and mushrooms). At Boots drugstore we purchase two more umbrellas.

Today we present a two-and-a-half hour “Mind Zapping” workshop that I normally do alone. But the festival program says it features Dick and Tara Sutphen and illustrates the offering with a color photo of the two of us. Tara’s new “Path” session is added to the mix. Now we’ll be fitting four altered-state sessions into the time slot. Not much time for talk.

The festival staff and volunteers are all friends. Stepping into the London Horticulture Halls for the 15th Annual Healing Arts Festival is like old-home week. Following lots of hugs and “how are you doings,” we have a quick tea in the cafeteria before setting up in the room, which seats about 150 people.

I learned long ago to arrive at any festival prepared for a dozen eventualities. There is no podium, so I set up my own music stand. When the doors open at 12:30 PM, the participants rush into the hall. Cheyenne passes out a free CD we’re providing that will support the teachings after the workshop. Soon, all but a few chairs in the back are filled. The workshop is being recorded for sale by the festival sponsors. Anne introduces me.

The audience is older than I’m used to, but this is a healing festival. I give a quick talk on mind electronics, explaining how my son Steven and I have been combining specific vibrational sound wavelengths with beats and pulses to alter consciousness. I explain that the brain is the hard wiring of your system. Through your brain you receive all the information you can collect using physical sensors within your physical reality. But your brain cannot access your spiritual side or non-physical reality. Your mind is required for this. So you have two very different tools of collecting information.

Your brain runs all your body systems that are not self-regulating, unless it is overridden by the mind. Your mind can override your body. Hypnosis and bio-feedback proves we can control our blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and healing rate. Mind is the higher function of the two because it can straddle realities. Your brain is inside you. Mind is inside and outside at the same time. New research says our thoughts and emotions are recorded in the cells of our body as well as our brain, thus the term, “bodymind.” Body and mind are really one and can’t be separated.

So as a processing system, your mind obtains it’s data from inside and outside physical reality. Yet from a neuro-psychological viewpoint, there is no such thing as “mind.” Some researchers call it a phenomenon, while others see mind as a process.

After providing some technical information, I set up an “Anchoring” NLP technique and run the process using our “Zapper” CD. In an altered state, the participants think of a very pleasurable memory, then anchor the feeling by touching their right knee with their right hand. When awakened, they realize the touch brings up the pleasurable feeling.

A remote viewing and telepathy session follows using our “Mind Converter” CD as the mind-zapping induction. During the bathroom break, Cheyenne handles the CD sales table. She knows the product because she uses so many of the CDs on her own and with her friends.

Tara conducts her “Path” session using the Hypnotic OM as the background induction sound. This is a new self-exploration/self-awareness process and the participants seem to get a lot out of it. I end the workshop by teaching how to use self-hypnosis for daily programming.

The workshop over, we linger to talk to those wanting to communicate. A woman has come down from Scotland and has things to share. A remote viewer wants to talk technique. People ask healing questions.

Later, we walk the festival floor, observing hundreds of offerings in the booths. Cheyenne remembers a booth offering yogurt blended with fresh fruits of your choice. She’s happy to find them here again. Other speakers and therapists stop us, want to ask questions and share information. An American says he met me in the mid-80s. I influenced him to become a hypnotherapist. Today he is married to an English woman and in practice in London.

Near the stage, we listen to Lyz Cooper’s Sacred Soundscapes group -- three women playing the Tibetan bowls, bodhran and rain stick, while intoning the OM and chanting. The combined sound is so trance inducing we have to sit down. I’m impressed. Tara is enchanted and buys two CDs.

We return to our apartment to change clothes and reorganize before heading out in the rain to a favorite Italian restaurant. Later, at Costa Coffee, we all have teas and rent computers for an hour of checking e-mail and communicating with friends and family. Hunter, our 16-year old, is in school and did not want to accompany us to Europe. Cheyenne does home school, which allows her to study anywhere.
