Dick Sutphen: The Attack on America Following the attack on America, most of the world felt incredible compassion for those who were murdered and those grieving for loved ones. The night of the tragedy, Tara organized a candle ritual in our living room for our extended family, which had gathered to observe the unfolding of events on TV. During this silent meditation, I felt I was taking far longer than anyone else, until I opened my eyes and saw that everyone remained with heads bowed, eyes shut, sending light and healing to those in need. We were all numb -- all acting in our own small way to do something. A week has passed as I write this. The feeling of compassion is still there, stronger than ever. But the numbness is dissipating -- being replaced by a need to act. 1. What is, is. 2. It is your resistance to what is that causes your suffering. 3. Our earthly purpose is to cast away our delusions. To me, these are the most important messages I have to share. I’ve been sharing them for over 25 years in my books, seminars and workshops. On the surface they appear simplistic. They are not. As I read some of the metaphysical messages being shared by others on the Web in the aftermath of the attacks, I’ve wondered if I’m perceiving a different reality or if I’m too detached. But my communications are Zen-based metaphysics that originally evolved out of a martial arts background. I tend to respond to life with action. The root meaning of the word karma is action. If you want things to change, you have to act. First, I’d like to say, that’s it’s time to stop worrying about predictions, especially about the Nostradamus quatrains. For years, people have been tweaking words and misinterpreting the writings to make it appear as if he were accurate. If he were accurate, August, 2000 a piece of a comet’s tail -- a fireball 50 to 100 miles in diameter -- would have hit the earth and destroyed most of life as we know it. I should also point out that the time line in the great pyramid ran out September 17, 2001. Many predicted that would be the end of the world. So far, so good. Don’t I believe in the psychic ability to see the future? Yes, I do, especially on a personal level, and to some degree on a general level when the events are not too far in the future. That said, let’s get back to what is, is. What is, is we’ve been attacked by terrorists and we have to deal with the aftermath and act responsibly to the future. Click here to read “In The Event of Transitional Times” from Soaring Spirit #70, September 1998. It is your resistance to what is that causes your suffering. What is, is we’ve been attacked and we’ll probably be attacked again. The more you resist this by cutting back on your lifestyle and fretting about what is to come, the more you will suffer. As Tara says, “Never allow yourself to live in a fear zone.” Zen says, when you’re troubled, chop wood and carry water. In other words, get busy, do something and you won’t have time to dwell on your personal concerns. We are here on earth to cast away our delusions. All our fear-based emotions are the result of experiences from past lives and this life from birth to the present. These fears are not reality, they’re old programming -- delusions that we must throw away to advance spiritually. We’re here on earth to learn to release fear and express compassion and unconditional love. This directly relates to the idea of attaining freedom of the self and from the self, which I have written so much about. Click here to read the Freedom articles at this site. The best advice I can provide is to chop wood and carry water. Prepare so that you can help others if called upon to do so. And act without fear when it comes to voicing your concerns. Our biggest danger at this time may be a police state built upon the loss of our civil liberties. Let me end this with a bit of writing that I included in the “Five-Day Preparedness Intensive” notebook given to participants April 20-24, 1998 in Missoula. The Human Cycle 1. Historically, hard times and natural disasters have offered opportunities for new extremist leaders to take power and often conquer other nations. The result is ENSLAVEMENT. 2. From the oppression of enslavement comes the need to know SPIRITUAL TRUTH. 3. From an awareness of truth, comes the willingness to FIGHT. 4. From the willingness to fight comes FREEDOM. 5. From freedom comes PROSPERITY. 6. From prosperity comes MATERIALISM. 7. From materialism comes COMPLACENCY. 8. From complacency comes APATHY. 9. Apathy allows a country to be conquered by a foreign power resulting in SLAVERY again. * * * * * Where are we on this historical wheel? |
