Aftermath

1. What is, is.

2. It is your resistance to what is that causes your suffering.

3. Our earthly purpose is to cast away our delusions.

I’ve been sharing these all-important messages for over 25 years in my writings and seminars. Each provides a direction -- a way to act -- in response to any situation. The root meaning of the word karma is action. If you want things to change, you have to act.

Since Sept. 11th we have been in crisis and from that moment on, we’ve been creating our own reality with our thoughts, words and deeds -- all of which are actions.

That said, let’s get back to what is, is. What is, is we’ve been attacked by terrorists and we have to deal with the aftermath and act responsibly to the future. You can’t change what is.

It is your resistance to what is that causes your suffering. What is, is we’ve been attacked and we’ll probably be attacked again. The more you resist this by cutting back on your lifestyle and fretting about what is to come, the more you will suffer. Tara says, “Never allow yourself to live in a fear zone.” Zen says, when you are troubled, chop wood and carry water. In other words, get busy, do something and you won’t have time to dwell on personal concerns.

We are here on earth to cast away our delusions. All our fear-based emotions are the result of experiences from past lives and this life from birth to the present. These fears are not reality, they’re old programming -- delusions that we must throw away to advance spiritually. We’re here on earth to learn to release fear and express compassion and unconditional love. This directly relates to the idea of attaining freedom of the self and from the self, which I have written so much about. (See www.dicksutphen.com for recent postings on this subject.)

The best advice I can share is chop wood and carry water. Live your life and at the same time prepare for potential emergencies so you will be in a position to help others if called upon to do so. Meditate/pray for peace -- radiate compassion. When you catch yourself thinking fearfully, stop the thought by saying to yourself, “compassion and peace.” Then replace the fear thought by envisioning a positive outcome. By so doing, you’ll block fearful mind programming, which tends to play out as cause and effect.

And finally, act without fear when it comes to voicing your concerns. Our biggest danger at this time may be a police state built upon the loss of our civil liberties.
