Our Malibu Part 3

Part 3

Back To “Our Malibu” Part Two

Aswin Hindu Temple

The Aswin Hindu Temple in Malibu Canyon. Everytime we think it is complete, they add another temple building.

Malibu Creek

Driving up Pacific Coast Highway, a newcomer might rightfully wonder where 18,000 people reside. From the Cross Creek area on up the coast, scattered houses cling to the mountain side and dot the foothills, but more people live back in the deep canyons with names like Corral Canyon, Trancas Canyon, and Encinal Canyon.

Malibu Creek

Malibu Creek State Park is an oasis of wild beauty, and the location for hundreds of films from Planet of the Apes to How Green Was My Valley. The TV show MASH was filmed here and it's an easy hike back to a rusted World War II jeep and ambulance that mark the location site. Today, you can hike, ride mountain bikes, or horses through the many miles of trails and undeveloped paths.

In the park you'll find rugged gorges, volcanic cliffs and buttes, grassy meadows, patches of woodland, creeks, waterfalls, rock pools and a two-acre lake. The surrounding mountains that separate the park from the sea, reach 2200 feet. The 4,000-acre site, was once divided into three parcels owned by Ronald Reagan, Bob Hope and 20th Century Fox.

Malibu Creek

About ten miles inland, Malibu Creek offers hideaway swimming holes within the boundaries of two state parks. Surrounded by soaring mountain peaks, you can follow the creek through rolling hills, and groves of oak trees. In Tapia Park, the creek meanders past banks where tall cottonwoods and willows shade the ground and offer refuge to many species of birds.

There is virtually no crime in Malibu. Amenities include two piers, a theater, limited shopping, but dozens of restaurants, from fast food to Wolfgang Puck's "Granita." Just a short drive over the mountains, Agoura Hills and Thousands Oaks are proud to have the lowest crime rate in the Western United States.

Malibu Creek

This is supposed to be an introduction to Malibu, not a book on my town. So I'll end here by thanking you for visiting our new Website, and inviting you to come to Malibu for one of our seminars in the near future. Bring your bathing suit and suntan lotion.
