A Condensed Overview Of My Basic Teachings By Dick Sutphen ____________________________________ "The true value of a human being is determined primarily by the measure and the sense in which he has attained liberation from the self." —Albert Einstein The following concepts have been explored in 19 metaphysical books, hundreds of audio/video tapes, and in my workshops and seminars all over the world. Although these ideas may appear simple, most contain dozens of sub-concepts. Fully relating the awareness to your life can take considerable exploration and work, which is one of the reasons I've written so many books on the subject. 1. Reincarnation and karma: Until you have resolved your karma and fulfilled your dharma, you will continue to reincarnate into sequential lifetimes upon the earth. Neither God nor the Lords of Karma bestow suffering upon you during these lives. You, and you alone, decide what you most need to learn in your earthly sojourns. And, for each life experience, you seek out other souls -- often with shared histories, and always with karmic configurations matching your needs. Whenever you act with intention, you create karma. Actions are considered to be thoughts, words, and deeds, and the motive, intent and desire behind each expression. Disharmonious expressions are rooted in fear-based emotions, which must be balanced before you can release yourself from the wheel of reincarnation. Everyone has the ability to explore their past lives through regression in seminars or in prerecorded sessions. For more information, see my books: You Were Born Again To Be Together, Past Life Therapy In Action, Enlightenment Transcripts, Earthly Purpose, and Finding Your Answers Within, and see Tara Sutphen's Blame It On Your Past Lives. Tapes/CDs: Ultra-Depth Past-Life Regression, RX17 Past-Life Regression, and The Wisdom Book. Seminars & Workshops: Past-Life Breakthrough, Sedona Psychic Seminar, The 5-Day Professional Hypnotist Training. 2. The search for true freedom is what all my communications are ultimately about -- freedom of the self and from the self. Freedom of the self means literal freedom. Freedom from the self means freedom from all the neurotic fear-based emotions such as prejudice, jealousy, hate, repression, greed, possessiveness, envy, guilt, egotism, malice, resentment, blame; and fear of commitment, intimacy, loss, abandonment, loneliness, success, failure, power, and the need to control others. Obsessions, dependencies and addictions are also fear-based emotions. These neurotic fears are based on issues you have failed to integrate on a soul level, and they keep you from experiencing wholeness. The fears are our karma and they keep us earth-bound. But the fears are not real. They're the result of past programming in this life or past lives. So in reality, the fears are delusions, and your earthly purpose can be summarized in just four words: cast away your delusions. Hypnosis programming and past-life therapy can often help liberate you from yourself. You need to recognize your fears because you can't change what you don't recognize. When you cast away all your delusions, you'll find that what's left is pure love. This is how you become enlightened. Enlightenment is not something to obtain, it's an absence -- an absence of all the fear-based emotions, leaving only your God-self. For more information see my books: Radical Spirituality, Finding Your Answers Within and Reinventing Yourself. Tapes: Video Hypnosis–Zen Attitude and Master of Life, and A Zen Attitude Sleep Programming. 3. The five paths to freedom from the self: Accept reincarnation and karma as your philosophical basis of reality. In so doing, you accept self-responsibility and come to understand that your life is just as you set it up to be -- although you always have the power to create your own "new" reality. Accept that what is, is. Buddha said, "It is your resistance to what is that causes your suffering." "What is" are the things you cannot change. Learn to tell the difference between what can and cannot be changed. Note: other people cannot be changed unless they want to change. Develop "detached mind." Your false-self experiences "attached mind." When you accept the feelings of sadness, anger, or envy, you think you're the feeling, but you're not. You say, "I'm angry." You don't separate what you feel from who you really are. You're not the anger. The anger is past programming. The anger is a fear-based emotion. The anger is your false-self. Through developing detached mind, you learn to allow negativity to flow through you without affecting you. Alter your viewpoint. The way you experience life is the result of how you choose to view what happens to you. Your viewpoint is the deciding factor in whether you experience life harmoniously or disharmoniously (is it a problem or an opportunity?). Self-actualization grows out of the acceptance of the above four points. To be self-actualized means to accept others as they are without judgment, expectations, blame, or attempts at control, while at the same time acting with compassion. For more information see all of the titles listed for 1 and 2. 4. The ego is nothing but the expression of fear-based emotions. Trying to repress this abstract aspect of your totality is the ultimate ego trip. Instead, concern yourself with detaching from fear-based emotions. As you succeed, your ego will diminish all on its own. See my books: Radical Spirituality, The Master of Life Manual and Enlightenment Transcripts. 5. You were born with a vibrational rate you earned in the past. How you live this life will determine how much you raise or lower your vibrational rate. You're here to cast away fearful delusions and to express unconditional love, which amount to the same thing. As you let go of fear you naturally open to expressing unconditional love. As you go out of your way to express unconditional love, you automatically rise above your fears. This concept is part of all the reincarnation communications listed above. 6. Change begins with action. The root meaning of the word karma is "action." You must act if you want things to change. Action starts with finding out who you are beneath your old programming. You must change what you're doing if it doesn't serve you. You don't have to change how you feel about something to affect it, if you're willing to change what you're doing. In other words, behavior generates feelings. You can begin your actions with reprogramming using any of my tapes. 7. Beliefs are the basis of your reality. Beliefs generate your thoughts and emotions, which in turn create your experiences. Beliefs are the result of present-life and past-life programming. Many of your beliefs are faulty and self-defeating -- they block your happiness and success. Mind programming in the form of hypnosis, meditations, sleep programming and subliminals can program new beliefs or reprogram old beliefs. Books: Finding Your Answers Within, Radical Spirituality and Reinventing Yourself. Plus all the altered-state tapes in our catalog. 8. The point of power is now. Reality is manifesting at a point where your beliefs intersect with the physical world. Change a belief now and you automatically alter the past by viewing it differently. The changed belief also alters the future by creating new potentials. Change your beliefs with altered-state mind programming. See our audio/video tape titles. 9. Aliveness is the excitement and exhilaration that makes you feel glad to be alive; the challenge, joy, stimulation, and pleasure that makes life worth living. All too often, people trade aliveness for security and survival, closing down, burning out and lowering their vibrational rate. The way to generate aliveness is to incorporate challenge in your life. I challenge readers and seminar attendees to live more dangerously. Books: Finding Your Answers Within, Radical Spirituality, Reinventing Yourself. 10. Reinventing yourself begins with fully understanding the Critical 15 Factors that keep you trapped. This is an extension of #3. For each of the 15 factors there is an action required to obtain freedom from yourself. Books: Reinventing Yourself, Predestined Love and Finding Your Answers Within. Mind programming: see appropriate audio/video titles. 11. Soulmates fall into three categories: 1) Karmic Companions are two people destined to form a union to confront unlearned lessons from past lives. In other words, conflict is destined as a self-test to see if the principals have learned to let go of fear and respond unconditionally. 2) Dharmic Bond Soulmates share a goal. What I said about karmic companions applies here, but the couple comes together, combining their energy to accomplish a joint task. At the point the shared goal is launched, established or complete, the couple will have fulfilled their duty to themselves and each other. From then on their future depends upon how they have karmically structured the relationship. 3) Counterpart (Twin-Flame) Soulmates experience a loving supportive relationship in which the partners share their lives with each other without conflict. That doesn't mean that they won't have problems, it is just that the problems will not be with each other. Most likely, they will have shared a long lineage of prerequisite lifetimes, and both people will have attained very close, or matching vibrational rates. In other words, they harmonize with each other, and the relationship is a karmic reward that will usually last for a lifetime -- maybe into future lifetimes if they will it to be. The common factor with Counterpart Soulmate unions is the partners both tend to be self-actualized. Soulmate relationships are structured one of three ways: 1) Locked-in -- the players must remain together to resolve their conflicts. 2) Open-ended -- the outcome of the relationship depends upon the growth of the partners. If love matures, they will remain together. But if stagnation destroys the potential for spiritual growth, a parting is assured. 3) Destined to end -- for the growth opportunity the parting provides. Can the two people let go with love—without excessive hostility, anger, and desire for revenge? If not, another mating in a future life is assured. Books: Predestined Love, You Were Born Again To Be Together. Tapes: Attracting Love: Drawing Your Soulmate toYou–Video Hypnosis. 12. Parallel Lives. Your oversoul is experiencing more than one incarnation on the earth at this time (multiple explorations of potential). Thus you are connected to others whose lives are influencing you. Books: Past Lives, Future Loves and The Star Rover (epilogue). Seminars: this concept is often explored in small retreats. 13. Psychic ability: Many of our seminars demonstrate that everyone is psychic, with over a 90-percent success rate in two-hour workshops. The Sedona Psychic Seminar demonstrates telepathy, automatic writing, psychometry, spiritual healing, and other techniques. Books: Sedona: Psychic Energy Vortexes and Finding Your Answers Within. Tapes: Psychic tape series. Automatic Writing & Remote Viewing Video Hypnosis, Automatic Writing Video Hypnosis, and Sedona Video. Another seminar is our one-day offering: Psychic Power Techniques. 14. Universal Laws: There are 50 primary Universal Laws. The Universe is perfectly balanced by natural and moral laws which are regulatory vibrations to maintain order. When you work within the Law, you can be assured of an eventual positive outcome. When the Laws are transgressed, you can be assured of suffering, the only purpose of which is to teach you a better way. See The 50 Primary Universal Laws tape. My basic teachings also include occultism, which covers everything from the psychic sciences, the lower-astral planes and spirit-guide contact, to the Higher-Self as a doorway to the collective unconscious. Many of these concepts are described in more detail in my Cause & Effect Report, which can also be found at this site. Seminar Trainings See current schedule under Sutphen Seminars at this site. 5-Day Professional Hypnotist & Counseling Training: Learn to be a professional hypnotist and conduct past-life regressions. Held annuallyusually in October in Southern California or Arizona. Sedona Psychic Seminar: Conducted in Sedona, Arizona once or twice a year -- usually in May. Explore the energy vortexes, have psychic experiences and learn how to use the techniques. A new Healing Seminar In Sedona is being added to the annual events after an inital offering in July 1998. Other offerings: Tara and I usually conduct seminars, retreats, or workshops in from five to thirty-five cities each year. For the last several years, we've also been participating in the Mind Body Spirit Festival in England and Australia. Individual seminars are sometimes scheduled in England. Retreats are conducted in special locations and limited to small numbers of participants. Weekend seminars are held in centrally-located hotels in major cities. New seminars are sometimes created for a tour. In the past, we have often conducted workshops for Learning Annex and Whole Life Expos.
