Life 101 & Old Godzilla Movies

Last night I returned home after several weeks on the road conducting seminars. The last segment was “The 8-Day, 100 Hour Professional Hypnotist Training” in Ft. Lauderdale -- the most intense eight seminar days I’ve ever experienced, and maybe the most successful.

After weeks of maintaining laser-like focused attention, I feel incapable of exploring anything more challenging than old Godzilla movies. At the same time, I need to write a column before leaving tomorrow to attend a 4th of July celebration in Santa Cruz, CA. Scanning my bookshelves for inspiration, I found a copy of “The Portable LIFE 101” by John-Roger and Peter McWilliams.

Here are some excerpts that did not require much focused attention, because just about everything in the book is good. So I’m going to simply share some excerpts:

Be bold. Commit and act.

When you’re so committed to something you know it’s going to happen, you act as though it’s going to happen. That action is a powerful affirmation.

The best comparison between effectiveness and efficiency we’ve heard is this: Efficiency is getting the job done right. Effectiveness is getting the right job done.

People who excel in life -- the so-called “winners” -- don’t do twice as much or five times as much or a hundred times as much as “average” people. Winners, it has been shown, only do a few percentage points more than everybody else.

You are worthy of all the good that comes your way. How do we know? If you weren’t worthy, it wouldn’t come your way.

When we do something new, something different, we push against the parameters of our comfort zone. If we do the new thing often enough, we overcome the fear, guilt, unworthiness, hurt feelings and anger -- and our comfort zone expands. If we back off and honor the “need” to be comfortable, our comfort zone shrinks. It’s a dynamic, living thing -- always expanding or contracting.

Replacing a negative memory with a positive one heals it.

Health is more than just the absence of illness. Health is the presence of aliveness, energy, joy.
