Anger Clouds The Mind
Three weeks ago, I flew from Los Angeles to Danbury, CT to talk for one hour at the IARRT -- International Association for Regression Research & Technologies. I was the featured
speaker and the conference took place at Western Connecticut State University. It was Mercury Retrograde, so the hotel room that was supposedly waiting for me wasn’t. And no one bothered to tell me just where on
this large campus the conference was to be held.
Why anyone would put on an international conference in a town with no airport, I had not figured out. I flew into Hartford, rented a car, and drove to Danbury. Over the weeks prior to
the conference, I asked several times if I would have a sound system to work with and a way to play CDs. I was told I’d have a way to play CDs, but no one knew about a sound system. I finally decided to carry my
own sound system -- a major inconvenience considering the short appearance.
After checking into the hotel on my own credit card, I left numerous phone messages with the people who had corresponded with me about the appearance. But an hour before my talk was
to begin, I had heard nothing. I had to have a parking permit for the university, I had been told, and it would be waiting for me. It wasn’t.
Now I pride myself on being able to maintain a Zen attitude. I learned the hard way as a young Martial Arts student in Scottsdale, AZ. And life itself is the best teacher of all. I
have trained myself to touch the tip of my index finger to the tip of my thumb -- a conditioned response technique to become an observer. In other words, I mentally step back, let go of anger and observe what is
happening. This allows me to regain my composure and decide upon an action that will best serve me.
Martial Arts teaches that anger clouds the mind, and causes you to make mistakes when encountering an opponent in the dojo. When this happens you can easily experience a painful
strike, or have your feet swept out from under you.
In Danbury, I touched the tips of my fingers to the tips of my thumbs over and over. I took a shower and dressed, not sure I was going to show up, even if I knew where to go. But
after weighing my options, I decided I did not want to disappoint people who had traveled from all over the world to be here.
After some deep breathing, I asked my angels to guide me to the conference. I then drove straight to the building where the conference was taking place. I walked in and set up my own
sound system. This was a good thing, because there was no way to play CDs, and although there was a professional sound system in the auditorium, no one knew how to turn it on or run it. They asked if they could use
my system to do their business. I said, “yes.”
I waited until the business part of the conference was completed. I talked and demonstrated for an hour. I was in Danbury about 12 hours, and I picked up a check on the way out of
town.
On the way back to Los Angeles, I stopped over in Dayton, OH to spend three days with Carol Morgan, Ph.D. We worked on the book we’re writing together and a website we’re
developing. Carol is co-host of my radio show every fourth week. Everything that went down in Danbury was made up for in Dayton. Had I not accepted the IARRT appearance, I would not have had time in Dayton. So in
the end, I was glad to have been invited to speak at the conference.
