For several hours, I’ve been setting up a Twitter account with Tara’s help. She can fire through this site and all the other social network sites at 90 mph. I’m trying to understand the basics. This all started at Border’s bookstore last Saturday afternoon after I finished conducting a “Soulmates” seminar at Awakenings in Laguna Hills, CA. Kathleen Shannon and I stopped for coffee and to browse the books. I picked up the new issue of “American Songwriter” magazine and it mentioned how Willie Nelson was active on Twitter -- the newest hot social network. Every day I read in the paper or hear someone talking about tweets and twittering, and how much fun it is, and the power of Twitter as a marketing tool. Tara had been on it for only three weeks and she has 1600 people “following” her and she is “following” about 700 more. In the short time she was helping me, she reported a dozen new people became her followers. In Borders, I happened upon a new book called “twitter power” by Joel Comm. I began to read the book and was fascinated. Was I “destined” to become a Twitterer? I’m staying over at the Malibu house this evening so my son Hunter can drop me off at LAX tomorrow, for a flight to Las Vegas, where I’m conducting a private Past-Life seminar. Tara offered to help me set up a Twitter account. So far it has been a frustrating experience. She set up a wallpaper background of my face. But it was too big. After all sorts of attempts to resize, she grabbed a smaller pic of me with horses in Canyon del Chelly on the Navajo reservation in Northern Arizona. That worked and I now have wallpaper the size of a sheet of postage stamps, but the subject matter doesn’t seem appropriate. And the small photo of me has the top of my head cut off. And Twitter will not recognize that I exist. At well after midnight, we have not figured it out and give up and go to bed. At 7:30 AM Friday morning (this morning) I start in again. If you type my name in the Twitter search box, the site tells you they don’t know me. “ACCCCKKKKKK” (as my friend Carol Morgan would say). Tara took over. Finally, she said, “Maybe they have you on a 24-hour hold to make sure you’re not a porn star.” “Huh!” Anyway, I have to go the airport. I’d like to invite you to join me on Twitter.com. Just type in Dick Sutphen, but I don’t know that you’ll find me there. If you do, it will be with the top of my head chopped off and you’ll see me, postage stamp size, wrangling horses. Once they decide I am not a porn star, these things will change.
