Social Network Insanity
Last week I wrote about my Twitter experience, which is ongoing, but at least I’m now functional and pretty much understand how it works. Everyone seems to have trouble getting them
to accept a photo. Carol Morgan has been fighting that fight for days, so I’ve decided to leave the horse wrangling wallpaper in place although it’s totally inappropriate. And I’m semi okay with the top of my
head cut off. I’d like to invite anyone who reads this column to join me. They still can’t find me if you type in Dick Sutphen, but this will work: www.twitter.com/dicksutphen
Twitter and I have been going through some adjustments. In creating the account I was given a dozen token free friends including Brittany Spears who said I was to follow her. Well? Don’t think so. Then
John McCain came in to be my friend. Cancel. Remove. Out. Today, two of the people I had accepted as friends, hit me with about 100 messages each, all selling something. I had to go through page after page to get to
the messages from friends and family. Thankfully, you can easily remove and block anyone who does this.
But I do plan to be active on the social networks, and we have already offered some free book and CD
downloads on Twitter.
Speaking of Carol, last Monday I spent most of my waiting time in the Las Vegas airport texting back and forth with her over a mix-up with FaceBook.
This is a note I posted Monday night on FaceBook:
Thank you for joining me or allowing me to join you. About six months ago my son Hunter created a FB account for me and then forgot to tell me and forgot
about doing it. So the matter just kind of disappeared ... until my friend Carol Morgan started making an issue of me not accepting her as a friend. I told her I did not have a FB account. She said, "Yes, you
do." And she threatened some things we won't talk about if I didn't do the add. I assured her, if I had a FB account she would be the first person I would add. We're not only best friends, we write together, do
a radio show together, and co-conduct seminars.
I asked Hunter if he had created the account. He could not remember if he had created it or not. But over the weekend he investigated. Whoops. Not only had he
created the account, there were 162 people that had asked to be added, and I had never gotten back to them.
So that's my excuse. Now I'm attempting to learn how it works as fast as I can.
