On Remaining Humble
Two weekends ago, I was heading to Las Vegas to do a private past-life regression seminar for a group of about 25 people. They put me up in The Hotel, an upgraded part of Mandalay
Bay. There were three flat-screen TVs in the suite (one in the bathroom). But there was no coffee maker or iron. Obviously, if you normally stay in a place like this you have coffee sent up, and you have your shirts
sent out.
But I like to have coffee upon awakening without being interrupted by room service. Plus, with tip it would probably cost $15 for one cup (I limit my coffee to two cups a day). Often, I do yoga nude
when alone, sipping coffee between postures. It’s a wonderful way to wake up. Without the iron, I could not touch up a shirt at the last minute.
The night before the seminar, Jenna Morton invited me to have
dinner with her at NOVE in the Palms. She and her husband own many restaurants and the Playboy Club. I was accompanied by Amy Ayoub who was sponsoring my seminar. (She gets politicians elected in Nevada.) Dinner was
an incredible experience.
Amy put on a first class seminar for her friends in a local spiritual center, and provided me with a lush setting to do private hypnotherapy counseling sessions.
One weekend
ago, I was heading to Olivet, MI to be the featured speaker at Coptic Festival International’s 35th Annual Conference. With the kids on summer break, the conference was to be held at the Olivet College.
Leaving LAX proved a problem. The plane was broke and after 90-minutes of trying to fix it, they had to board us on another plane. I missed my Chicago connection and arrived late in Olivet. I was picked up at the
airport in Lansing and rushed to the college, where I spoke for a few minutes -- a teaser for the main events. Then I was checked into my dorm room.
Dorm room?
I had not asked about accommodations.
Dallas, the man who picked me up at the airport, handed me a plastic bag filled with sheets, a towel and washcloth. The room had one bare florescent light in the ceiling. There was a wobbly student desk, two twin
beds and a dresser. There was not a coat hanger in the room, nor a wastebasket. The tiled floor was not going to work for yoga. And guess what? There was no coffee maker or iron. There was not even a place to buy a
cup of coffee. And worst of all there was no WiFi.
You shared the toilet with whoever was in the next room. The system worked like this: Enter and lock the door to next room. Do your business and remember to
unlock your neighbor’s door. I got up in the middle of the night and forgot to unlock it, which resulted in a note under my door in the morning.
Since my plane was late, I missed dinner in the cafeteria. I
figured I’d walk into town and find something. Well ... town is one block long and pizza is the only digestible offering. This is why when on the road I carry several raw food bars.
Saturday morning, my
lecture started at 8:45 AM in the main auditorium. Good Lord, that meant getting up a 3 AM California time. I talked about the positive aspects of the “Shift” and did a group hypnosis session. It went over very
well. (You have no idea how hard I worked to come up with this one-hour session.)
I had told the sponsors, I was open to doing some private sessions while I was there. They booked every spare minute of my
time, and I had to work right through lunch. More raw food bars.
Sunday’s workshop was a 90-minute “Working in Higher Self” session. I barely had time to get to the large teaching room. There was no
sound system.
“NO F&@#+% SOUND SYSTEM? I DON'T WORK WITHOUT A SOUND SYSTEM.”
It was then I had a quick, silent talk with myself. “You could have brought your own sound. You know better. You
didn’t ask. You can work without mind-electronics, and you can project your voice. Just buck up and do it.”
I did it, and it worked fine.
The upside of the conference: I met dozens of wonderful
people, and I survived just fine in the dorm room. After all, I can camp anywhere. I used to sleep outdoors in a bedroll on the ground in Mexico.
Vegas was a lesson in opulence. Olivet was a lesson in
humility. I think I prefer somewhere between. Best Western has coffee machines.
