It’s Addictive & Fun

Okay ... I bitched and resisted social networks for a long time, but truth be told, they are excellent marketing vehicles (if you are cool about your posts and willing to share yourself along the way), and they are an excellent way to stay in touch with people who read my books and use my CDs.

As Jason pointed out to me on the phone today, “You used to stay in touch with your people by sending them a magalog in the mail. But nobody can afford to do that anymore. The social networks are now allowing you do that again, and you get immediate direct feedback too.”

Some of my Face Book posts are for free CD and book downloads, some are teasers for website content on www.dicksutphen.com and www.radical-relationship-resource.com, or for my services, and sometimes I’ll just post a quote I really like ... and some posts are just silly stuff about what I’m experiencing at the moment.

As an example this is something I wrote last night:

www.facebook.com/dicksutphen : Just in from a hike up and down mountain back roads. Started texting back and forth with Carol Morgan as I walked and didn't realize how dark it was getting. Damn near ran into a few trees, making my way (slowly) back home. I am now sitting in front of laptop wondering why I bothered to share that. “Dah” ... as Carol would say.

Now this simple little post generated eight responses from people, (including my daughter Cheyenne) who said they “liked” it. And eight more from people who made a comment. People who comment have their picture posted by their words:

Gayle Charette: Running into a few trees sounds like something I would do. LOL

William Sutphen: Glad to hear you didn’t break your nose dad on one of those trees. Have a great 4th and wish we could be there. Give our love to the fam. Love, Will

Kathy Lynn Douglas: Thanks for sharing ...  and I’m NOT being sarcastic with that. The little personal glimpses go just fine along with the professional info and commercial breaks.

Craig Spector: One word: flashlight. Or is that two words. LOL ...

Shauna Hoffman: ha! sounds like me. I love those headlamps! You can walk the beautiful mountains, hike under the starlight ... immerse yourself in nature and stay freakishly addicted to technology at the same time ...
