UMC Conference Experience
I knew little about the United Metaphysical Churches (UMC) conference in Roanoke, Virginia when I accepted their invitation to present a three-hour workshop on Saturday afternoon and
a short talk on Sunday morning. They had agreed to my fee and conditions, and offered to sell our CDs in the bookstore at the conference.
I knew little more when I was met by Rev. Reed Brown, founder of the
organization, at the Roanoke Airport. I expected a gathering of many different New Age churches. Instead the UMC, is a Christian denomination, but with a metaphysical mix. They have many churches in the East.
I liked Reed. He was down to earth and easy to talk with.
Saturday, I did a workshop on the positive aspects of the Shift and worked on Soul Agreements. As part of the Pre-Birth Planning Session Regression, I
asked the participants why they decided to be born at the end of the age and the beginning of a new age.
The people I talked to afterwards, all learned in the process that they were here to be of some kind of
“service” when the Shift arrives. The majority of the people attending seemed to be mediums or healers.
That night I attended the conference banquet. Entertainment was a woman, made up and acting like an
old woman, auctioning off contributed gifts. My first thought was, “Oh, No.” But the whole process was hilarious and the time passed quickly.
Sunday’s service turned out to be just that -- a church
service that was very close to the Presbyterian religion I grew up in. The New Age portion of the service was me. My 20 minutes was the sermon, which was a short talk on service, followed by me hypnotizing the whole
congregation and letting spirit talk to them about how to be of service. At the end, I stood in line with Reed and three newly-ordained ministers, and I shook hands with everyone as they left the chapel.
All
in all, it was a warm experience in a town that feels like yesterday. There is almost no crime in this beautiful mountain community. I could understand why the young women I flew into town and out of town with, were
both determined to live here.
On the arriving flight, I sat next to a woman in the communications field. She worked in Chicago -- absolutely hated the place and survived at the job because she could live two
weeks out the month in the Roanoke office of the company. She said if they offered her 150K to be full time in Chicago, she’d quit.
Flying out of the little city in the mountains (the airport is about the
size of an I-Hop restaurant), I sat beside a woman who is an engineer for Volvo automobiles. She travels in her job, and has a plan to make Roanoke home base. She wanted to know what I did. When I told her, she said
she’d never heard of reincarnation. But she was very interested in how hypnosis could help her boyfriend stop smoking.
