Environmental Unity

“Environmental unity” -- how you resonate with where you live, is another way of looking at energy. If you reside in a place you love, your environment can’t help but enhance your overall energy. We’re energy beings and our energy is affected by our environment, the people surrounding us, the energy of objects, sounds, foods, and the energy of our thoughts and feelings.

As I write this, I’m 30,000 feet over the Atlantic, returning home from working in London at the Healing Arts Festival, followed by ten days in Edinburgh, Scotland. Tara and my 14-year old daughter Cheyenne accompanied me.

Edinburgh is my favorite foreign city and we’re all sad to be leaving this European home away from home. Tara cried when the train pulled out of Waverly Station. But would we choose to live here over Southern California? No.

For two and half months we’ve been traveling -- more often than not, conducting seminars and workshops. The cities have included Ft. Worth, TX, both Sedona and Scottsdale, AZ, Detroit, MI, Moorea, Tahiti, London and Edinburgh. And as I ponder our sadness at leaving Scotland, I recall a time we considered moving to Missoula, Montana. As part of the decision-making process, I rated Missoula against Malibu on a scale of our primary concerns -- giving each concern 1 to 10 points: 1 being lowest, 10 highest.

My personal resonance with the place:

Weather compatibility:

Physical beauty:

Educational quality/opportunities:

Alignment with my liberal or conservative thinking:

Percentage of like-minded people:

Acceptance of New Age ideas:

Personal friends:

Proximity to family:

Income potential:

Tax benefits:

Air and environmental pollution factors:

Crime rate/general safety:

Natural dangers/disaster potential:

A place to raise children:

Recreational opportunities:

Entertainment opportunities:

Cultural opportunities:

When Missoula was compared to Malibu in this way, Malibu was for me, four times higher. Of course the concerns will mean different things to different people. Weather compatibility might mean a change of seasons to you, while warm sunny weather gets a 10 from me. Physical beauty is certainly subjective. Diverse as they are, I give Sedona, Scottsdale, Edinburgh, and Malibu a 10 in the area of physical beauty. You get the idea.

In September we attended the Ft. Worth, TX wedding/reception of Erin Thomas, daughter of friends BJ & Gloria Thomas. I’m totally at home in Texas, which offers the best food and music on the planet. I even love the loud “WE’RE FROM TEXAS” attitude of the people (Tara rolls her eyes). But when I score the overall city on my personal scale, it can’t match where I’m living.

Moorea is certainly a paradise in many ways, but I doubt it would feel that way for long considering how little there is to do, the spring rainy season and the high-humidity summers. Scottsdale, AZ was home for many years and that city continues to remain my second choice as a place to live.

Getting back to Edinburgh, I believe that past-life identification is a big part of my resonance with this city. The cultural and entertainment opportunities are certainly a 10, but weather compatibility is a 1. Scotland offers world-class education and is probably one of the safest places to live, with little natural danger or disaster potential. But for me it ranks very low in areas such as income potential, tax benefits, like-minded people, proximity to family, et cetera.

A few value judgments are all that keep you from living in a place where you experience true environmental unity. Of course they may be large value judgments, such as reducing your standard of living, taking a lesser paying job or moving from a house to an apartment. But if such a move were to greatly enhance your energy, it seems to me, it wouldn’t be long before you were once again living up to your self-image.
