“Everyone Is Soooo Angry” While in my bank yesterday, I said hello to a loan officer I’ve known for years. She seemed rattled as she hung up the phone. “Another angry customer,” she said. “In 25 years of working here, I’ve never known people in general to be so angry and edgy.” She felt it was a combination of the war and terrorist jitters combined with a bad economy. “No one knows what’s coming. The woman on the phone was screaming at me to rush her home-loan refinancing, because she thinks she’s going to lose her job.” This was the third time in a week I’d heard similar responses. “People are angry. People are scared.” Anger is a protection against pain. To be angry, you have to hold someone else responsible for what has angered you. In other words, you need to blame. If you can’t express blame you may repress the anger, which often then erupts in a misdirected and inappropriate manner -- temporary madness. According to some counselors, anger is active sadness and sadness is inactive anger -- two aspects of the same emotional state. Anger is often followed by depression, which is sorrow over what you’ve lost (dwelling upon the past). Anxiety is concern about what is going to happen in the future. Let’s get back to blame. If you don’t have anyone to blame for your anger, depression or anxiety, you might focus upon an abstract target such as the “establishment” or God. Half the world is currently blaming President Bush. I received an e-mail from a woman blaming the “same people” who waged war on the American Indians. According to her, “they” just keep reincarnating over and over again to get the rest of us. Even if this were so, it still doesn’t work. The only reason you keep reincarnating to schoolhouse earth, is for a chance to learn. If this were a peaceful world where everyone lived in harmony, there would be no opportunity to learn. You would have to seek out another disharmonious planet upon which to test your level of awareness. In seminars and workshops, I teach, “Blame is self-pity. Even if you don’t accept metaphysical ideas, who wants to be pitied? But those of you accepting karma and reincarnation need to question your inconsistencies. Blame is incompatible with karma. You and you alone are responsible for everything you’ve ever experienced or ever will experience. You put yourself in this position at this time, as an opportunity to learn. If you squander the opportunity by blaming, you haven’t learned your lesson and will have to be tested again.” You can always come back in a future life in a bad economy during a time of turmoil to take the test again. * * * * * TO RECEIVE THIS “Master of Life” COLUMN WEEKLY AT YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS, CLICK ON “REPLY “ AND TYPE “SUBSCRIBE” IN THE SUBJECT AREA.
