Hiding From Questions Lunch with Jacquie Jordan was to talk over promotional ideas and discuss how to handle a hypnosis-marketing seminar we will conduct together in September. Jacquie is a personal friend and a successful media producer who has recently completed three new TV pilots, while also writing a book and conducting her own seminars. (www.jacquiejordan.com) We were to meet at Zen Tea in Brentwood, a 40-minute drive from Malibu. I miscalculated somewhere along the line and arrived for lunch an hour early. My normal response would have been to fill the time by visiting retail shops, reading the paper, or calling friends on my cell phone. Instead, I closed my eyes, went within, and asked, “Why did I do this?” The answer was immediate, “To have quiet time to create ideas.” So I went next door to Starbucks, ordered a coffee and found a table in the back. After a little deep breathing, I set pen to paper and started writing. It wasn’t automatic writing. I call it “inspired writing,” which is a matter of committing your thoughts to paper as fast as you can write. This practice sometimes turns into automatic writing ... and you realize your hand is moving all on its own. If you’re not expecting this, it can be disconcerting. Ideas, questions and awareness poured out. And I mean poured! I think I created more writing assignments and creative projects for myself in that one hour than I have in the last several months. Folding up a dozen pages of paper and putting them in my pocket, I was glad I had asked myself, “Why did I do this?” “Why did I say that?” “What do I need and how do I go about getting it?” “Am I being karmically correct in trying to get what I want?” “Why do I really desire this?” WE NEED TO ASK OURSELVES MORE QUESTIONS. At least I do. Answers are not difficult when we ask the right questions. But we avoid the questions, because the answers might bring up awareness we’d prefer not to deal with. It’s easier to hide from awareness than embrace it, because awareness can generate transitional thinking, causing us to act. Actions generate reactions and change, which takes energy and can make life more difficult ... at least for awhile. But what if you need to change? Asking gives your soul an opportunity to express itself. * * * * * Dick’s 5-DAY PROFESSIONAL HYPNOTIST TRAINING will be held Sept. 22-26 in Marina del Rey, CA (Just 10 minutes from LAX Airport).
