A Sufi teaching story tells of a man who prayed continually for the awareness to succeed in life. Then one night he dreamed of going into the forest to attain understanding. The next morning he went into the woods and wandered for several hours looking for some sign that would provide answers.
When he finally stopped to rest, he saw a fox with no legs lying between two rocks in a cool place. Curious as to how a legless fox could survive, he waited until sunset when he observed a lion come and lay meat before the fox.
“Ah, I understand,” the man thought. “The secret to success in life is to trust that God will take care of all my needs. I don’t need to provide for myself. All I have to do is totally surrender to my all-sustaining God.”
Two weeks later, weakened and starving, the man had another dream. In it he heard a voice say, “Fool. Be like the lion, not like the fox.”
Think of your Higher Self as an artist and your lower self as the picture you will paint. Your Higher Self is your karmically created character, and your lower self is your physical body--your traits, habits, and emotions. In each incarnation karma presents you, the artist, with an opportunity to paint your life picture. Do not confuse yourself with your picture. You are already a fully self-actualized, enlightened soul, who has only to project this awareness into your work.
We forget that we are the artists and not the painting, when we allow the painting to become our reality when we could be calling upon our buried talent to change the areas of the picture that are not working. We can erase portions of the picture and start again, painting a new image in bright, joyous colors.
Meditate upon picking up a paintbrush and painting your picture exactly the way that you want it to be. Visualize this very vividly and then project it into manifestation.
The following cause and effect case histories are from the “Human Potential Trainer Techniques” course I taught at the National Guild of Hypnotists Conference in Marlboro, MA. In each case, my subject was a professional hypnotherapist who was attending to learn new techniques. They were all programmed so that when I touched them on their forehead and said the word, “sleep,” they immediately dropped into the deepest possible hypnotic sleep.
Following the “What Pushes Your Buttons” process I use in these types of seminars, a middle-aged female participant shared that whenever she feels someone is judging her, it just makes her crazy. So I did a quick “back-to-the-cause” regression. The woman began to tremble, and was soon reliving a situation in which her accusers had judged her to be a witch and she was about to be hung.
In another case, a tanned woman in her mid-forties explained that she had fibromyalgia and other physical problems, which caused her to be in constant physical pain. I hypnotized her and directed her up into Higher-Self to meet those who love, teach and guide her on a regular basis. At this mental level, and with the help of those in spirit, I directed her back to the real cause of her pain.
She began to describe her hard life as a Christian nun. She resided in a tiny cell and suffered physically. I asked her to explain. She said, “Christ suffered for us, so we must suffer for him as well.” In seeking to understand the nun incarnation in relationship to her current life, my subject explained, “The physical pain began about the time I decided to devote my current hypnosis practice to Christ Consciousness work.
Somehow her unconscious mind “connected” the past-life suffering for Christ to a need to suffer doing similar work today. I directed her to release the past, acknowledge the false fear associated with the lifetimes, and to let go of the pain over the next 24 hours.
In another exploration, a mid-forties woman explained she could never get ahead monetarily. In a back-to-the-cause regression, she perceived herself as a child living with her parents on a remote prairie. Her first impressions were of playing in a garden, surrounded by cabbages. But when progressed forward to an important event, she saw herself older, alone and desperate. The garden had dried up, her parents were dead, and she was starving. The session ended when she laid down and died.
My subject began to cry. From a Higher-Self level, she said, “Everything can be taken away from you just like that. You can lose it all. So today I keep so much emergency stuff around me I don’t have room for anything else. The trunk of my car is so full of emergency gear I don’t have room for groceries.” I directed her to release the past, the poverty consciousness and the false fears that were playing havoc with her current life. Over the lunch hour, she emptied out the trunk of her car and gave away all the emergency gear. “I don’t need it anymore,” she said.
Cause and effect. With regressive hypnosis you can always find the cause of a current situation.
